By 2040, the world will be spending a gigantic $25 trillion per year on conventional healthcare approaches. Placing a significant burden on governments worldwide, this will represent a 150 percent increase since 2014.
To put this startling statistic into context, the World Bank puts current gross world product (the GDPs of all countries in the world added together) at around $80 trillion. As such, with even the World Economic Forum now admitting that spending $25 trillion a year on healthcare is a problem and that higher expenditure alone “does not necessarily achieve better results”, the need to switch to a new approach based on safer, cheaper, natural preventive therapies has never been greater.
As Dr. Rath’s groundbreaking Cellular Medicine work demonstrates, the research to support a healthcare system based on natural approaches already exists. Based on almost two decades of studies conducted at the Dr. Rath Research Institute under the direction of Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki, it is clear that a healthier world – one in which deaths from chronic diseases are reduced to a fraction of their current occurrence – is now possible.
To read Dr. Rath’s blueprint for a world in which natural preventive health approaches are seen as a human right, see the inspiring speech he gave in the Italian city of Barletta in October 2014.

In the latest European attack on natural forms of medicine, the government of Spain has announced draconian plans to ban them from being offered as treatments in the country’s health centers. Illustrating the extent to which the growing popularity of natural therapies is now threatening the future of drug-based medicine in Europe, the proposals were jointly presented by health minister Maria Luisa Carcedo and science minister Pedro Duque. Claiming that natural forms of medicine supposedly have “harmful effects,” the ministers pretended there is “no scientific proof” that they work.
Led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, a key strategy of the Spanish government’s plan involves preventing what it considers to be ‘misleading publicity’ about natural therapies. To achieve this, it proposes to pass legislation requiring private health centers offering natural treatments to tell patients they are not effective. This legislation would also allow the Spanish government to stop all publicity promoting natural forms of medicine, including for products and events. Seemingly, the end-goal of this desperate move is to eliminate natural therapies from the country’s health centers. Towards further ensuring that patients, students, and medical professionals alike are prevented from even learning about such forms of medicine, the government additionally intends to prevent qualifications in natural treatments from being awarded in Spanish universities.
A deliberate smokescreen to obscure the facts
The announcement of the Spanish government’s plan comes just two months after a group of scientists sent an open letter to health minister Carcedo demanding action against natural health approaches. Citing a case in which a woman apparently died from cancer after refusing chemotherapy, the letter claims practitioners using natural therapies are “misleading seriously ill patients, leading to deception in the best of cases and to death in the worst.”
Tellingly, however, neither the scientists’ open letter nor the Spanish government’s plan give any proper consideration as to precisely why it is that patients are increasingly rejecting toxic chemical drugs in favor of natural health approaches. Instead, the Spanish people are supposed to believe that the problem lies solely with dishonest practitioners who, motivated purely by money and greed, are misleading patients about the safety and effectiveness of natural therapies.
Not only is this pretense insulting to the intelligence of the Spanish people, it also acts as a deliberate smokescreen to obscure the facts. If Prime Minister Sánchez and his government were really interested in protecting the health of the Spanish people, they would instead be focusing on the proven dangers of the toxic chemical drugs produced by the trillion-dollar a year pharmaceutical industry.
Protecting the interests of the pharma industry
As millions of people are now aware, the pharmaceutical approach to medicine is so dangerous that orthodox doctors, hospitals, and their treatments have become the third leading cause of death in the United States. Providing sobering evidence of the dangers of pharmaceutical medicine, a study published in 1998 estimated that in 1994 around 2,216,000 hospitalized patients in the United States suffered a serious adverse drug reaction (ADR) and that 106,000 suffered a fatal ADR.
In the case of cancer, research in the UK now shows that in some hospitals, within 30 days of starting treatment, chemotherapy kills up to 50 percent of patients who receive it. Even for those patients who manage to live through cancer, the overall contribution of chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adults has been found to be a mere 2.3% in Australia and just 2.1% in the United States – thus providing an important clue that it is not simply the life-threatening side effects of pharmaceutical drugs that are causing Spanish patients to turn their backs on conventional medicine.
Like their counterparts in other countries, the people of Spain are becoming increasingly aware that drug-based approaches do not address the root causes of chronic diseases. The more they realize that long-term micronutrient deficiencies are the primary cause of the biggest killer diseases of our time, the more they are seeking access to safe, scientifically proven natural healthcare approaches such as nutritional and Cellular Medicine therapies.
Far from thanking any politician whom they perceive to be protecting the interests of the pharma industry, millions of natural health advocates in Spain will instead be looking ahead to the next Spanish general election which, while scheduled to be held no later than July 2020, could potentially take place as early as next year. If the fragile minority government of Prime Minister Sánchez decides to proceed with its unwarranted war on natural forms of medicine, patients and natural health advocates will inevitably respond by seeking to remove it from office via the ballot box. Members of the Spanish parliament and government who wish to remain in office would be well advised to keep this in mind.

A new clinical trial has shown eating fish such as salmon, trout and sardines as part of a healthy diet can reduce asthma symptoms in children.
A common lung condition characterized by breathing difficulties ranging from minor to life-threatening, asthma affects 235 million people worldwide. Despite the related death toll reaching 180,000 per year, conventional medicine offers no cure. As with other chronic conditions, the main treatments employed are based on the use of pharmaceutical drugs to control symptoms. This is despite research showing that patients can halve their risk of suffering severe asthma attacks simply by taking supplements of vitamin D.
Researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute have taken the use of nutritional approaches a step further by investigating how a synergistic combination of micronutrients can help in the condition. In a pilot study, they gave the micronutrients to asthma patients aged between 45 and 75 years old. After only three months using this natural therapeutic approach, every single one of the patients demonstrated an improvement in their breathing and an increased lung capacity.

England’s Chief Medical Officer says people should buy organic or high-welfare meat to help combat the grave threat of antibiotic resistance.
Natural health advocates have long been expressing concern over the doses and numbers of antibiotics that are routinely given to farmed animals not reared organically. Despite this, however, governments and pharma industry stakeholders have historically tried to mislead the public into thinking there was supposedly no reason for concern.
It is therefore highly significant that England’s Chief Medical Officer now says people should buy organic or high-welfare meat. Her admittance follows UK MPs recently saying that unless something is done to tackle antibiotic resistance, by 2050 so-called ‘superbugs’ could be killing more people than cancer and diabetes combined.
In reality, of course, scientific evidence of the health benefits of organic food has been growing for some years now. Large-scale independent studies have repeatedly shown that organic food contains higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and other key micronutrients. In 2014, in what is arguably the most comprehensive analysis to date, an international team led by Professor Carlo Leifert from Newcastle University in the UK found that organic fruits, vegetables and cereals contain up to 69 percent more of key antioxidants than regular food, as well as lower levels of toxic metals and pesticides. Based on an analysis of 343 peer-reviewed studies from around the world, Leifert’s findings destroyed the myth that organic food is nutritionally indistinguishable from that produced using pesticides.

What makes a democracy? In this video, members of the public discuss what constitutes a democratic country, and how many true democracies exist.
According to The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index, there were only 19 countries that had a full democracy in 2016. Based on the Unit’s report, a country is said to have a full democracy when the functioning of a government is satisfactory, political freedoms are respected, and the media and judiciary are independent.
An infographic showing how each of the 167 countries analyzed by The Economist Intelligence Unit scored, on a scale of 0 to 10 based on 60 indicators, can be found here.
The 19 countries judged to have full democracies were as follows:
Norway; Iceland; Sweden; New Zealand; Denmark; Canada; Ireland; Switzerland; Finland; Australia; Luxembourg; Netherlands; Germany; Austria; Malta; United Kingdom; Spain; Mauritius and Uruguay.
Notably, not one of the 167 countries analyzed achieved a perfect 10 out of 10!
The Economist Intelligence Unit’s full Democracy Index report for 2016 can be found here.
